Another sterling effort from the press officers at Bristol City Council:
- Bristol Evening Post - Bristol City Council tells allotment holders not to use a padlock on their sheds
- and the Daily Mail
- and the Telegraph
There's now a "STOP PRESS" on the Bristol allotments page:
Following recent publicity on the issue of site security and sheds on allotment sites, we have reviewed our position with regard to the advice on securing sheds. We advise tenants not to keep items of high value such as machinery in allotment sheds. We recommend that sheds should be secured in line with advice given by Avon and Somerset Police, which you can view here. Please note, however, that this cannot guarantee 100% security on remote sites such as allotments.
The advice from the coppers is more succinct:
Use good quality locks to secure your gates and doors.
